Plantations at War

Drayton Hall and Middleton Place are offering a complimentary program for teachers. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn important regional history at local historic sites!

Tuesday, August 3^rd, 9:30-11:30 at Drayton Hall, 12:30-2:30 at Middleton Place

Teachers will begin their day with a tour of Drayton Hall, a circa 1738 plantation house in nearly original condition. During the American Revolution, this place was an encampment for both British and Continental soldiers, and served as a staging ground for the Siege of Charleston.  Educators will learn the story of the Drayton Family, including William Henry Drayton – leader of the South Carolina Colonial Navy and fervent Patriot. After the house tour, teachers will participate in two interactive stations that detail the life of soldiers during the American Revolution led by Drayton Hall professional educators. Following the Drayton Hall program, teachers will lunch on their own and then proceed to Middleton Place. At Middleton Place, teachers will have an in-depth look at the life of a Civil War soldier. A Civil War focused tour of the Middleton Place House Museum will be paired with a tour of the stable yards and a question and answer period.

Teachers MAY be eligible for credential re-certification credit based upon their district’s policies.
