Of Good Cheer: Historic Holiday Beverages

The holidays at Drayton Hall were a season of abundance: dinners, entertainments, and tables set for company that lingered well into the twelve days of Christmas. At the center of it all were festive drinks, raised in toasts and passed among friends as an expression of warmth and welcome.

Join us as we explore some of the beverages that made the season bright in historic Charleston. We’ll explore and taste three drinks with deep roots in the Lowcountry’s entertaining culture, syllabub, milk punch, and sangaree, tracing their origins, their place on Charleston tables, and the objects used to serve them. Archaeological artifacts from Drayton Hall will bring these traditions to life.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, cocktail curious, or simply looking for a festive occasion with good company and great stories, this event offers a toast to the past worth raising.
