Chicora Tours offers an all-inclusive package that includes transportation to Drayton Hall from downtown Charleston in a luxury sprinter van.  This tour runs on Sundays and Mondays and includes the interpreter-led tour of Drayton Hall as well as plenty of time to explore the grounds and galleries.

While at Drayton Hall, guests will participate in a one-hour guided house tour led by a professionally trained historic interpreter. The tour will take guests through the main floor of the house as well as the second floor and cellar, all while exploring the history of Drayton Hall and those who labored and lived on the property.  Guests will also have the opportunity to explore the grounds and galleries and see a variety of significant and historical aspects of Drayton Hall’s past such as furniture, artwork, manuscripts, and botanical plantings based on Drayton family documents.

Transportation is provided in a climate-controlled vehicle. All tours depart from the Charleston Visitors Center at 375 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29403.

Drayton Hall, the house jewel of Charleston, SC is America’s earliest unrestored example of Palladian architecture c. 1738, and Middleton Place has America’s oldest landscaped gardens, c. 1741; together, they are two must-visit attractions to see when you visit Charleston. Drayton Hall and Middleton Place are located conveniently close to one another along the historic national scenic byway, the Ashley River Road region of Charleston.  Drayton Hall is open Wednesday through Monday from 9am-5pm with the entrance gates closing at 3:30 p.m.

Middleton Place is open daily from 9am-5pm; guests in the gardens by 5pm may remain until Dusk.

Drayton Hall:
Founded in 1738, Drayton Hall is the nation’s earliest example of fully executed Palladian architecture and the oldest preserved plantation house in America still open to the public.This one hour guided tour will interpret the cellar, the first floor and the second floor of Drayton Hall. Following your tour, you will have the opportunity to take a self-guided audio landscape tour, visit The Gates Gallery, The Almeida Gallery in the Caretaker’s House & the Stephen J. Wood Conservation Lab and on your way out, visit the African American Cemetery.
