Webinar – Plaster in Polychrome: How Drayton Hall is using x-rays, lasers, and radar to see plaster in a new way

If you’re reading this inside, look up! What kind of ceiling is above you, and how much do you know about its condition? If the material over your head is plaster, you’ll be happy to know that Drayton Hall did some experiments with you in mind, and we’d love to share our results with you.

With funding from the National Park Service’s National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, we tested several non-destructive techniques in hopes of finding the most accessible and affordable methods for evaluating the condition of historic plaster. Falling plaster is more common and more dangerous than you might realize, which is why we’re excited to share what we learned. Join our webinar with Trish Lowe Smith, Director of Preservation and Archives, to see what it’s like when preservationists get to test new technologies in old places and how our research is informing preservation work around the world.
