2007 Year-End Campaign
Help Drayton Hall Have Another Banner Year
We've never been able to show you how much we've accomplished at the main house in a single year. Just look at the "before and after" pictures to the right.
Over the past year, you've probably heard about this project-repairing the lintel that supports the staircase on the river-front façade, conserving the pavers on Drayton Hall's iconic portico, repairing the 18th-century limestone steps, patching and resealing the roof, and, finally, removing damaged gutters and replacing them with more efficient, copper gutters. We're proud to report that this project is complete.
Of course, with the year coming to an end, we are already planning for next year's projects, and that's where you come in.
Our goals for 2008 include:
- Conserving the second floor of the portico. The ceiling above the first floor, the surface of the second floor, and the exterior cornice all require significant repairs.
- Working with elected officials, conservation organizations, and community activists to ensure that the recently passed Ashley River Historic Overlay District Ordinance is maintained and that growth does not negatively impact the historic region.
- Collaborating with renowned blacksmith Philip Simmons to design and construct a new memorial gate at the entrance to Drayton Hall's African-American cemetery.
Thank you!
*Friends who make contributions of $120-$249 will receive Drayton Hall Revisited, the 2008 wall calendar; $250-$500, one of the 55 remaining glass Drayton Hall ornaments; $500 and above, the newly published Houses of the Founding Fathers: The Men Who Made America and the Way They Lived, which features Drayton Hall on its cover.
